Cabling from the focal plane PMTs to the telescope electronics is through standard RG58 coaxial cable (as used in the current 10m telescope). This method introduces some time dispersion into the signals. An analog optical fiber system with sufficient dynamic range (1:1000) is presently under development and is being tested on the Whipple 10m telescope. Fibers introduce no dispersion and are light-weight. If these tests are satisfactory optical fibers will be an attractive upgrade to coaxial cabling and will permit much of the electronics to be located in the central control building.
