VERITAS Scientific Program

The proposed three year program for the full VERITAS array is outlined in Table 1 below.

Table 1: Proposed 3 Year Observation Program of VERITAS
Mode Scientific Program Allocation Hours Total
B1/B2 Galactic Plane Survey 80 nights @ 8 hrs/nt 640 640
A Survey follow-up 20 sources @ 10 hrs/src 200 840
A XBL AGN $^{\dagger}$ 30 w/ z < 0.3 @ 10 hrs/AGN 300 1140
A EGRET AGN $^{\dagger}$ top 20 @ 10 hrs ea. 200 1340
A Neutralino search 30 hrs/yr for 2 yrs 60 1400
A Pulsars $^{\dagger\dagger}$ top 5 @ 50 hrs/pulsar 250 1650
B1/B2 Supernova Remnants $^{\dagger\dagger\dagger}$-shell type top 10 @ 25 hrs/SNR 250 1900
B1/B2 Supernova Remnants $^{\dagger\dagger\dagger}$-plerionic top 10 @ 25 hrs/SNR - 1900
B1/B2/C AGN Monitoring $^{\dagger\dagger\dagger}$ brightest- 50 hrs/yr - 1900
A Gamma-Ray Bursts $^{\dagger}$ 50 hrs/yr 150 2050
any Discretionary/Target of Opportunity 100 hrs/yr 300 2350
- Engineering 10% total 300 2650
$^{\dagger}$Scientific goals depend on sensitivity and energy threshold of the full VERITAS array.
$^{\dagger\dagger}$Scientific goals are compromised without the full VERITAS array.
$^{\dagger\dagger\dagger}$These programs can be carried out in parallel so additional targets do not increase observing time.
